Ostritz - Town on the Oder-Neisse Cycle Path

The small town of Ostritz is located on the west bank of the Neisse. Lying within the romantic Neisse valley is St. Marienthal Abbey founded in 1234. The Abbey is home to Cistercian Nuns whose monastic lifestyle has remained uninterrupted to this day. The Abbey’s current design originated in the second half of the 18th century, built in the baroque style, it has lots of wonderful detailing.

Special attractions of the monastery include the Garden of Biblical-Plants and the most eastern vineyard of Germany. You can relax in the monastery bakery, monastery inn and vine tavern, which are situated directly on the Oder-Neisse cycle path.

Every Easter Sunday, all the bells ring out in Ostritz to announce the Easter Ride Procession. This is when 100 riders with their decorated horses deliver

      the Easter message.
